We sat down with model Caitlin Robertson for an incredible conversation about body confidence, self-love and working in the fashion industry. Caitlin has been a model with us for almost two years and has been featured across our website campaigns, Facebook lives and has been a part of our recent challenge to Australian Luxury brands to increase their size range offering to better reflect the average Australian woman.
From empowering body confidence, experiences in the industry, and future motivations, here are our key takeaways from our conversation with Caitlin.
JUST SAY YES
Say yes to everything, even if it scares you! Caitlin told us a key factor in her journey to becoming a successful model was saying yes to every opportunity thrown her way. Life is all about stepping outside of your comfort zone into the unknown; it’s where you will make the biggest strides and learn the best lessons.
MODEL WITH CURVES
In a recent personal discovery, Caitlin made the realisation that she was defining herself by her curves. In the past, Caitlin had ‘Curve Model’ in her Instagram bio, but she has recently adjusted this to say ‘Model With Curves’. It came to her one day that she isn’t a model because she has curves, she is a model because she is beautiful; her curves are not her defining feature. This was a very empowering realisation for Caitlin and one that she hopes many other women experience.
HOW TO GET USED TO SEEING PHOTOS OF YOURSELF?
Confidence in photos is something most women struggle with. We are too quick to pick apart details of ourselves that no one else would ever notice. We asked Caitlin for her advice on how to overcome this adversity women have with photos and her response was very impactful.
Caitlin recommends that every woman should do ‘mirror work’. This is where you sit in front of the mirror, wear something that makes you feel beautiful, look yourself in the eyes and spend time taking in how extraordinary you really are. It’s a time to tell yourself positive affirmations and to not allow yourself to think any of those negative thoughts that might instinctively flood your brain.
Skip to 18:00 minutes in the conversation to see an example of Caitlin and Leina working through this together.
Place your hand on your heart, look yourself in the eyes and tell yourself:
- I am beautiful
- I am a really good friend
- I have a beautiful family that I look after
- I have beautiful thighs
- I have beautiful hair
- I am strong, I have the best arms and I give the best hugs
- I am great at my job
Say the things that you never say to yourself. Say the things you tell your friends all the time but forget that you need to hear them too.
